The following are intended to be useful resources for students and coaches in the MFL. Starting a forensics team or keeping one going can be a daunting task, so we've collected a few useful documents and how-to guides below to aid you. Please send the Board email if you have any suggestions or ideas for helpful guides that we could include in this section.

Other Organizations of Interest to MFL Schools

Schools from Massachusetts participate in one or both of the two National forensics leagues, as well as other organizations that encourage speech and debate within Massachusetts and beyond.

Boston Urban Debate League The Boston Urban Debate League (BDL) works towards introducing debate to public schools in the Boston area, contributing research and volunteer coaching, and constructing a structure for interschool competition.
National Debate Coaches Association The National Debate Coaches Association provides all debate coaches, regardless of type of debate, region, or pedagogical style with avenues for professional development. The goal of the organization is to strengthen the ability of coaches to provide meaningful learning experiences for their debaters.
Mid-Hudson League The Mid-Hudson League (MHL) offers tournaments primarily in upstate New York for first or second year students competing in LD, Public Forum or Policy debate. Massachusetts schools are welcome to attend MHL events.
Tim Averill Debate Fund Founded in 2004, the Tim Averill Debate Education Fund is a non-profit, self-sustaining endowment with the aim of sustaining the excellence of high school debate both in Manchester Essex and on local, regional, and national levels. The interest generated from the fund is used to provide scholarships for members and graduates of the Manchester Essex Debate program, to sponsor international debate opportunities, to help get new regional debate programs off the ground, and more.
